Gas Dryer Appliance Repair: Diagnosing a Gas Dryer Igniter

A gas dryer may be a machine. If you've got basic mechanical skills with basic electrical skills you'll tackle a gas dryer repair. Gas dryers often times only need the thermal fuse or igniter replaced to repair the difficulty. Listed below are several possibilities.

Clogged vent

If you've got a voltmeter and need to diagnose your unit read on.

Access your dryer repair igniter, with the meter on the igniter. If continuity is present the igniter is sweet. When the unit is working normally the igniter will glow with 110v applied. Once the igniter draws sufficient amperage the gas coils will activate, sending gas funneled right down to produce heat.

When a machine overheats the security fuse will trip, when this happens one leg of voltage is stopped at the fuse, the LEDs on your appliance can still illuminate when a fuse is guilty. Thermal fuses fail normally thanks to clogged vents.

Possible:

The vent exhaust, if a dryer doesn't push the warmth and moisture out thanks to a clog or foreign debris lodged within the vent system.

The thermal fuse will trip. Also, a kinked or clogged vent hose also can cause the fuse to trip.

The lint filter clogged.

Most times this relates to an airflow issue. I even have found lint clogged within the lint filter housing.

If the lint filter is on top remove the 2 screws thereunder, next removing the rear panel of the dryer repair will offer you access to the remaining four screws that hold the housing to the dryer's chassis. This is often not a standard issue, although it's an opportunity.
